Our story
How we met
COVID-19 was declared a pandemic...
...in March 2020 and Jason was sent to work from home for the next three weeks (or so he thought). As he'd grown up with dogs, he'd always wanted one of his own, but never had the recommended two weeks to stay home and bond with it. Three weeks was more than sufficient, so Jason decided to adopt Caleb, a 1-year old crazy mutt from the shelter.
Around that time, Paulette was walking dogs as a side gig. She had a client with two tiny designer dogs (pictured) that she walked to the dog park at the same time every day. While hanging out adjacent to each other at the dog park, Paulette would occasionally kick Caleb's ball back over to Jason since Caleb was still confused about the retrieving part of fetch. They saw each other at the dog park for about a week, occasionally exchanging dog-park-small-talk without exchanging names.
One day, a former ultimate frisbee teammate of Paulette's showed up at the dog park with his dog. He also knew Jason from playing ultimate pick-up games. He chatted separately with Paulette and Jason until he introduced us so we could all engage in dog-park-small-talk as a group while all the dogs ran circles around us. Jason asked Paulette for her number for when he had to go back to the office in a few weeks (lol) and needed to hire a dog walker for Caleb [Editor's note: this was a genuine request and not a pickup line]. The next day, April 1st, SF Parks and Rec closed all dog parks due to Covid concerns. Paulette and Jason were walking up to the closed gate at the same time to find it locked. Jason asked what Paulette planned to do (since she's the expert dog walker). Paulette said she'll go to another nearby public park a few blocks up. Jason asked, "Mind if I join you?" and she said, "Sure." Jason remembers this part differently and claims Paulette asked Jason to join her in going to the other park [Editor's note: she 100% asked me, I will die on this hill]. They continued to meet at the park every day after that and started dating soon afterwards.
If you said that Caleb was the reason we met, you'd be right, and in order for Jason to have the necessary time to get Caleb, the world had to quite literally stop.

The proposal
He turned 40 and shrugged, "now or never" [Editor's note: this is false]
On Jason's birthday, November 12, 2022, Jason, Paulette, and (a much more well-behaved) Caleb wanted to go for a walk outside their Tahoe home. The three of them went down the usual trail outside the house surrounded by trees and, at this time of winter, about three feet of snow. Jason led the trek down the narrow path so that on the way back from the mile-long, single-file hike, he would be in position, waiting behind Paulette for his opportunity. This was difficult because she would not stop throwing snowballs for Caleb to fetch, and Caleb was all there for it. Finally, Caleb must have caught a scent of something and dashed into the woods for a few moments longer than usual. Jason seized the opportunity.
"You know," he said, grabbing her by the waist. "The past two and a half years have been the happiest of my life." Jason couldn't hear them, but there were alarm bells ringing in Paulette's head.
"Aww, mine too," she replied.
"Remember what I told you I wanted for my birthday?" he asked, fiddling with something in his jacket pocket.
Paulette's mind raced back to the previous evening, lying sleepily in bed when she had asked him what he wanted, but couldn't remember as she had hastily fallen asleep [Editor's note: this is a super-power of hers] before his reply registered.
"Nooo?" she said.
"I said I wanted you," he said, pulling out a box from his jacket pocket and getting down on one knee. Needless to say, she said yes, and they hugged for a few minutes under the snowfall until a crazy dog came bursting out of the woods and crashed into their legs.
